Elder Abuse and the Old
Man.
...Days later,
Mason Featherstone was back at home nursing his wounds that were now healing.
He immediately dragged himself over to his wall safe and extracted his laptop
computer and was set to write. He was a victim of domestic abuse and he knew
that there were so many other seniors suffering through the same kind of
things. He wanted to let the world know that this was really happening. He wanted to write about the mistreatment
that is happening all the time, and in every walk of life to those his age and
older.
Liam Featherstone burst down the stairs from his upstairs’ bedroom and into his father’s
space. He was ranting and raving at his Dad, once again. His father was the
only person in the world who had done more for him than anyone else.
“How come you did not die
in that hospital?”
“Liam, don’t blame me,
blame it on the doctors.”
“Don’t get smart with me,
you old goat.”
“Liam, I’m your father, I
deserve some respect.”
“You are old and no good
for nothing. Look at me, I’m young and handsome. I got my entire life in front
of me.”
“You are going to get old
someday.”
“Not me, I will kill
myself before I let that happen. You should have been dead a long time ago.”
“Why don’t you call me,
Dad?”
“I just don’t want too.”
“Leave me Liam, I want to
be alone.
Liam stomped out of the
bedroom with hate and vile on his young face. And that hate and vile was
always, it seemed, was directed at his father, Mason Featherstone.
Mason was finishing up on
the third draft of his current article on seniors
and elder abuse as he was still nurturing his recent abrasions. His
own experiences on these issues will make the article more of a reality. Editing and the rewrites were harder than
writing the article itself, Mason thought.
Liam charged back into
Mason’s bedroom, his father was still alone. This time with his girlfriend,
Nora. Liam rushed in swinging his fists wildly all into his Dad’s face, “You
rotten old man, why don’t you just die so that I can get everything.”
“Don’t forget to kick him
up his ass for me, Liam,” Nora ordered.
“Stop hitting me, son!”...
